 The deputy mayor of Samokov, Blagovesta Dediova, has said:
The construction of the new gondola by German construction company, Dopplemyer, will begin before the end of the year and trees are already being felled to enable this. The gondola station will start in a place called Ivanov Kamak. Ski runs will begin from the end of the gondola and in summer, these will be used as bike trails.
Additionally, the construction of a Winter sports stadium has begun - in a zone called Boricho, which is at the Borovets end of Samokov.

>Budget flights
Four no-frills carriers have notified Sofia International Airport of their interest to offer regular flights to and from Bulgaria starting January 1, 2007 when the local aviation market opens to competition. Italian low-cost airline MyAir will introduce, on 15 Feb ’07, a new flight between Bologna, northern Italy, and Sofia, the company said in a statement quoted by news agency ANSA on Tuesday. The service will be available three times a week. Ireland’s Ryanair, Britain’s easyJet and Germany’s GermanWings have also forwarded a flight schedule to Sofia airport. Ryanair has proposed a service between Sofia and Frankfurtand easyJet wants to fly between Sofia and London. Several budget carriers are also seeking regular slots from ‘07 at Burgas airport, on the Black Sea. SkyEurope and WizzAir have the Bulgarian low cost market to themselves at the moment, but this is unlikely to last. Budget carriers were kept out of the Bulgarian aviation market over the past couple of years to preserve the market share of flag carrier Bulgaria Air, which is currently undergoing privatisation. However, Sofia recently signed the open skies agreement that grants all European carriers access to the local market. This document is expected to be ratified by the Bulgarian parliament within the next few months.
