He also emphasized that the project would take into consideration the environmental impact and would be controlled to ensure the preservation of the biological diversity of the Rila Mountains. The PM went on to say that, “The remarkable thing is that the project starts with the construction of a new (cabin) lift, not hotels and residential buildings”. He also noted that according to the project, more than 500 million euro will be invested during the next 5 years and 2000 new jobs will be created. The PM also stated that the start of the Super Borovets Project will accelerate the construction of a ‘southern transport arc’, which will connect Samokov with the Trakia motorway.
The ceremony was blessed according to an Old Bulgarian ritual and afterwards the Bulgarian group ‘Pirin’ performed a musical concert.
"One of the main goals of the project is to offer diverse attractions for the development of all year round tourism with five star hotels, modern facilities and good transport infrastructure."
Super Borovets is among the most important projects in Bulgaria; the concept of the resort is constant and sustainable development with excellent financial return for mid-long term investments. The project was announced as a ‘National priority’, as it is expected to ensure that Bulgaria is at the forefront of the expanding European tourism market. Additionally, it’s seen as a key step in overcoming the perception that Bulgaria is a destination for summer tourism only.
The success of the Super Borovets project is based on the support of the local and national authorities, which have provided careful planning for the whole region. The architectural outlook of the resort will conform to the rich historical and cultural heritage of Samokov, as well as designs based on classic Alpine resorts.
One of the main goals of the project is to offer diverse attractions for the development of all year round tourism with five star hotels, modern facilities and good transport infrastructure. The strategy for the resort includes low density construction and numerous sites for sporting activities, including: golf courses, tennis courts, basketball and football stadiums, which will attract tourists even during the summer months. As the project is situated in close vicinity to the Rila National Park it will also provide access to many other outdoor activities.
The execution of Super Borovets is divided in 2 major stages and it’s planned to be completed within the period 2007 – 2012. The total land which will be used for the construction of the residential buildings is 623,500 square metres and 40 km of new pistes will be constructed. The terrain of Super Borovets is situated in 4 regions, Borovets (1100 m above the sea level), Banderata (1460m), Gvardeiska Polyana (1620m) and the Bylata Polyana (‘White Meadow’, 1310m). The project possesses all necessary permissions for the start of the first phase.
